Here we re-discuss the case of SN 2002ic which recently has been considered as the key object for unveiling the nature of the progenitors of type Ia because of the presence of hydrogen lines over a diluted SNIa spectrum. We suggest that SN 2002ic was the outcome of the explosion of the core of a massive star which lost its hydrogen and helium envelope becoming a type Ic SN, rather than the explosion of a WD, i.e. a type Ia. In this scenario the interaction with a dense CSM is a natural consequence of the mass-loss of the massive progenitor and/or of the presence of a gas rich environment. At late stages SN 2002ic closely resembled the two interacting SNe 1997cy and 1999E which, therefore, might be associated to SNIc. As a consequence, their proposed association to GRBs is reinforced.
