The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI), in collaboration with the European Coordinating Facility (ECF), and the Canadian Astronomy Data Centre (CADC), is studying the development of an enhanced archive for the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). Some of the primary enhancements would be making HST data VO compatible, improving the science products for the earlier instruments (e.g., cosmic ray-rejected, multi-drizzled images for the WFPC2), providing real time access to the data, providing more extensive composite images (e.g., stacked images, mosaics), improving absolute astrometry by a factor of ˜10 (i.e., from 1 arcsec---2 arcsec to <0.2 arcsec), adding footprint and cutout services to make it easier to browse and download images, and developing source catalogs for many datasets. An associated goal is to move toward a sky-atlas user view rather than a collection of datasets.
