We propose XMM observations of 7 GALEX-selected compact Ultraviolet Luminous Galaxies (UVLG). These low-redshift UVLGs have properties very similar to distant Lyman Break Galaxy (LBG) populations, strongly suggesting that they are local analogs to LBG. These seven UVLGs are in the composite portion of the BPT diagram indicating they are likely candidate AGN. These observations will determine whether there is an AGN dominating the X-ray emission in these UVLGs, which would contrast them to high redshift LBGs where X-ray detected AGN are rare.
