A key step in asteroid astrometry is choosing a set of comparison stars
or reference stars. The final precision depends upon the intrinsic
positional accuracy of each of the reference stars. Here we show how the
precision of asteroid astrometry is dependent on the geometry of the
reference star configuration relative to the asteroid.
