The photolysis of mixtures of gases detected in the atmospheres of the Giant Planets have been studied. The formation of unexpected products, the particular role played by each gas and the determination of the particular experimental conditions to selectively form a photoproduct in our lab studies show the high complexity of the understanding of the photochemistry of the planetary atmospheres and evidence that numerous experimental photochemical studies have to be performed to be able to predict which compounds are formed in such media.
