Cosmochronology
Scientific paper
The long-lived radioactive nuclei, uranium and thorium in the atmosphere of ultra-metal-poor stars in the Galactic Halo, are the "cosmochronometers" working over the Galactic history during more than 10 billion years. The dating with the use of thorium since finding an r-process enriched star several years ago and the uranium-thorium chronology since the discovery of uranium in another r-process star in the beginning of the new century provide us a unique method for determining the age of the universe. I will review the reliability of the dating technique with uranium and thorium, and speculate some progress in the near future.
