Chemical processes in the interstellar medium and the properties of
molecular clouds are closely tied to processes such as star formation,
that drive the evolution of galaxies. Dust, molecules, and PAHs are
intertwined in an evolving astrochemistry. We review the potential
diagnostics of these processes available from molecules.
