A series of equations are derived with which the shape of a giant rotating gas-liquid planet can be calculated together with its gravitational field. It is shown that if the density distribution of a planet or star is known, these equations can be used to obtain both the gravitational moments of the object and those functions which determine the shape of all its equipotential surfaces. As an example, the gravitational moments and shape functions of Jupiter and Saturn are calculated.
