The facts and controversies surrounding the discoveries of Uranus,
Neptune, Pluto and their satellites are reviewed. Earth-approaching and
earth-crossing minor planets are discussed with attention to the work of
Helin and Giclas. The problems attending satellite discoveries are
examined, and the criteria for 1978 P 1 is evaluated.
