Mechanisms are discussed by which massive black holes, ejected from galactic nuclei, might travel through the rarefied intergalactic gas and release the necessary energy over relevant time scales to explain the origin, evolution, and characteristics of extragalactic double radio sources. A model is considered in which a massive black hole surrounded by an accretion disc would eject a continuous supply of relativistic particles and magnetic flux. Ejection of such an object from a galaxy by the gravitational slingshot method is described, and the evolution of a double radio source by viscous dissipation of the accretion disc is outlined. Two other possible models are briefly noted.
