Schematic diagrams and verbal explanations of the induction-coil magnetometer used on the HELIOS probe are presented. The waveform canal and the spectral analyzer of this apparatus are described at length. A low-noise preamplifier, a triple-component sensor, and the crucial role played by a mean-value computer are also discussed. The waveform canal measured the time functions of the magnetic field strength and of its direction; these measurements were not directly convertible. But the data garnered from the spectral analyzer were transferrable, by means of the mean-value computer.
