We propose to determine deep cluster memberships and color-magnitude diagram (V,B-V) in two cornerstone old open clusters, NGC 188 and NGC 6791. The expected proper-motion accuracy of 0.5 mas/yr will allow us to obtain the Present Day Mass Function down to ~0.5M_sun essentially eliminating uncertainty due to field stars. This proposal focuses on i) depth - down to V~22.5 mag; ii) field coverage - out to two tidal radii; iii) and astrophysical significance of the clusters. Both goals i), ii), and the requirement of high proper-motion accuracy can be achieved only using the favorable combination of numerous first epoch plates taken at the Mayall 4-m telescope in conjunction with the proposed CCD Mosaic Imager frames. We will also derive the astrometric membership of known enigmatic sB/O subdwarfs in both clusters and search for others in the cluster outskirts. Faint galaxies seen through these clusters provide the means to obtain absolute proper motions which coupled with radial velocities and a distance are essential to calculating galactic orbits.
