Using a complete sample of early-type galaxies brighter than 14.5 we propose to map the peculiar velocity field of galaxies and to reconstruct the mass density field out to a radius of 7000 km/s . This sample will complement the recently completed survey of spiral galaxies in the field and allow us to test the universality of the results. The combination of these two samples will provide us with the largest homogeneous sample available to study large scale motions in the nearby Universe. One of our main goals is to determine the value of (beta)=Ω^0.6/b and resolve the discrepancy between measurements on small and large scales leading to low and high values of (beta) respectively.
