Since its first description, our concept of a coronagraph using a sectorized phase mask has been extensively examined and several instruments, based on this device, are currently studied. A status of the studies on the different properties and estimated performances will be given. The projects, either on large ground telescope such as VLT, or on space instruments as the NGST midIR camera, will be described and the scientific capabilities, especially for exoplanets detection, will be assessed.
