The observed distribution of the number of quasars by degree of linear polarization at a wavelength of 49 cm is shown to be exponential. A model is fitted to this exponential distribution in which the radio-emitting area of a quasar consists of a large number of regions and the magnetic field in each region has a constant magnitude and random orientation.
