X-ray data (44-60 A), which was obtained in a 3-second scan of the Cygnus Loop from an Aerobee rocket, is presented as evidence that a compact object, possibly a black hole, is present within the nebula. The techniques for obtaining the periodic emission and for testing the statistical significance of the result are described, and a 21.4-ms periodicity is found. It is shown that when the pulsed fraction of 50 to 60% is removed, the residual intensity agrees well with previously reported values of the mean Loop intensity. It is suggested that, because of the time scale of the periodicity, the pulsed contribution is due to a compact object in the Loop, which may be variable in both the intensity and spectrum of its emitted X-rays.
