Three problems associated with metal-rich grains are considered: (1) the effect of grain transport on stars which form out of the interstellar medium; (2) the effects of grain transport in OB associations; (3) the growth of icy mantles in OB associations. The results of Larson and Starrfield (1971) are used as a model of star formation, and the motion of grains is analyzed in the envelope under radiation pressure from the central stellar condensation. The analysis is applied to a model for a typical OB association deduced from Blaauw (1964) and to calculations of metallic mantle growth on grains. It is shown that (1) stars greater than 21 solar masses may be poorer in metals than the medium out of which they formed if grains possess icy metallic mantles; (2) the correlation of absolute magnitude and reddening in young OB associations may be consistent with the model of expulsion of grains from massive protostars; and (3) grain mantles can grow in OB associations, but the cycle time for growth may be rather slow.
