Semiregular Variables:Space Distribution
Scientific paper
M type SRa variables within two kiloparsecs of the Sun are less uniformly distributed, and more concentrated to the plane, than SRb variables. Mean distances from the galactic plane and median latitudes decrease as the period increases. This and the mean motions suggest the shorter period stars may be older than the longer period, and SRa variables may be younger than SRb. These results are provisional as the longitude distribution, especially for SRa stars, indicates a notable difference in completeness between Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
