The reported investigation represents the continuation of studies conducted by Rosenau and Frankenthal (1976) and Rosenau (1977) in connection with the presentation of a family of self-similar solutions for the equatorial propagation of axisymmetric, piston-driven magnetohydrodynamic shocks into an inhomogeneous ideal gas permeated by an azimuthal magnetic field. Such a topology is appropriate for the near equatorial flow far from the sun. The new investigation is concerned with the presentation of the complementary case of a blast wave in a gravitational field due to an instantaneous energy deposit at the origin. Exploiting some invariant properties of the first integrals of motion, a solution in closed form is constructed. The investigation reveals that no cavity is formed and that the motion extends to the origin.
