The detection of HNO in the interstellar clouds SgrB2 and NGC2024 has been reported by Ulich et al. (1977). This detection is particularly important because it concerns the only interstellar molecule so far detected which contains the NO bond. An investigation has in this connection been conducted to obtain estimates of the densities of some species which take part in reactions affecting HNO formation and loss. Formation and destruction rates for HNO based on densities of reactants calculated in a 'dense cloud' model are presented in a table. It is concluded first that both gas and grain formation routes may be important for HNO, and second that theories seem massively to overestimate the abundance of some molecules in high density clouds.
