Fourier analysis of high-resolution photoelectric profiles of Tau Scorpii indicates a 5 km/sec rotational velocity and a 6 km/sec radial-tangential macroturbulence for the photospheric velocity field of the hot star. A value of 3 km/sec for the microturbulence results from analysis of strong and weak line profiles. Slightly depressed blue wings observed in nearly all the lines are explained as the product of a subphotospheric convection velocity field (produced by He II ionization) that initiates an acceleration of matter which is sustained by radiative pressure.
