Complex emission and absorption features of the spectrum of a possible
supernova in the galaxy MCG 43223 confirm that the object is a supernova
of Type V (a subclass of Type II). The data were obtained May 29, 1978
between 21 and 50 days after maximum. The red shift suggests a distance
of 65 Mpc, and the absolute magnitude is estimated to be -17.1.
