Trailblazing observations of stars in late stages of their initial formation were carried out some months ago by two astronomers from the Landessternwarte Heidelberg-Königstuhl, FRG, Drs. C. Bertout and B. Wolf. Spectroscopy with the ESO 1.5 m telescope on La Si/la during twelve consecutive nights revealed dramatic spectral changes, and simultaneous photometric observations at the new observatory near San Pedro Martir, Baja California, Mexico, are now being reduced.
