Photographic and spectroscopic observations of V1016 Cyg are examined along with photographic, photoelectric photometric, and spectroscopic observations of HM Sge. It is found that V1016 Cyg is still nearly constant at maximum light with the same brightness as attained in 1967, that the color index reflects the presence of strong emission lines, and that the spectrum has evolved steadily toward phases characterized by higher and higher excitation. The data for HM Sge indicate a Wolf-Rayet spectrum; a best fit is obtained for type WN6. Evidence for mass ejection from both stars is discussed. It is suggested that these two stars may be proto-planetary nebulae.
