Arguments are given to justify the assumption that the single star members of the same 0.01 'photometric box' have the same absolute magnitude within a range of about 0.1 magnitude. The special case of binary stars in the same photometric box is examined and six known stars in Praesepe are suspected to be binaries. The hypothesis that the absolute magnitudes of stars in the same box are equal is applied to compare the individual distances of Hyades stars given by two authors using the convergent point method.
