. A new system is described for classifying the early-type stars, 0 to G, making use of the numerical values of three well-defined parameters: the magnitude and average wave length of the Balmer jump, and the absolute spectro- photometric gradient of the continuum in the blue-violet region of the spectrum. Every set of these three parameters seems to characterize the main properties of a given type of star, that is, spectral type and luminosity.
