The effect of a group delay of signals in the coronal plasma is calculated via the example of type III solar radio emission for the Newkirk corona model. It is shown that failure to consider this effect leads to a 40-percent error in estimating the mean flux velocity of fast electrons generating type III solar radio emission. The calculation was performed within the framework of the type III fundamental generation scheme proposed by Eremin and Zaitsev.
