An approximate method for analytically solving the transport equation for the cosmic ray (CR) distribution function is developed. Calculations show the acceptable accuracy of the method in the case of strong and moderate modulation of CRs, i.e., when the dimensionless modulation parameter fulfills the condition g = ul/kappa is greater than or approximately equal to 1 (where u is the velocity of the medium, l is the characteristic scale of its variation, and kappa is the cosmic ray diffusion coefficient).
