Observations of the Vela X-1 X-ray pulsar made with the Watch instrument on board the Granat observatory from January 1990 to September 1991 are reported. The 283.3-s rotation period of the pulsar was found to be maximal for the entire history of the observations. The light curve of the source demonstrates the presence of strong X-ray flares with a duration of several hours. On January 9-10, 1991 Watch detected the source's switch-off, which lasted more than 10 h. This switch-off began two days prior to the regular eclipse.
