An attempt is made to calculate the surface temperature of the ancient
earth during the origin of life on it. A surface temperature of 352 C is
obtained, taking into account the present-day temperature of Venus. A
model for the ancient astmosphere of the earth is presented, the
principal components being CO2 and H2O.
