The linear polarization of the optical radiation of the system Cyg X-1 = HDE 226868 can be explained by a weak 'hot' spot due to X-ray heating of the surface of the optical star, and by scattering of its radiation on the accreting disk or the weak 'hot' spot, due to gravitational darkening and the effect of ellipsoidality of the optical component. Circular polarization of the radiation is possible evidence for the existence of a regular magnetic field in the disk.
