It is suggested that a particular foothills feature located northwest of and parallel to the lunar Apennine Mts. could have been caused by an underlying sloping batholith which may have been initiated by the Imbrium tectonics and whose main body could be located beneath the mountains. Since support for this premise hinges on establishing that some form of batholithic structure could have occurred on the moon at some time, evidence is reviewed which shows that lava has been generated at depth and has extruded onto the lunar surface, implying that volcanic intrusive structures (i.e., batholiths) should exist on the moon. Three other lunar structures of possible batholithic origin are identified.
