Stereoscopic analysis of four photographs taken by Mariner 10 confirms the first results announced by Suomi (1975); i.e., accelerated zonal flow from the equator to middle latitudes, 'solid rotation' of the South Pole cap, and low meridional velocities in the direction of the poles of each hemisphere. In addition, it clearly reveals that during one Venus day, circulation accelerates downstream from the subsolar area. Finally, a long and narrow striplike cloud formation, located within the equatorial region and parallel to the equator, appears to move differently from the other clouds in the same area. This suggests that inhomogeneities in the upper atmosphere of Venus may exist at least at two altitude levels.
