Elastic and quasi-elastic breakup measurements of ^7Li to alpha + t were made for the reactions 54-MeV ^7Li + ^{197 }Au and ^7Li + 12C. The breakup products were detected in coincidence in a close-geometry detection system. Primary angles approaching 0^circ were investigated. Direct and sequential breakup were observed for each target at each angle investigated. There is evidence of a strong nuclear enhancement of the direct -breakup yield for 12C( ^7Li,alphat) 12C_ {rm g.s.} as compared to a Coulomb breakup calculation. There is also evidence that post -breakup Coulombic accelerations distort the direct-breakup spectrum of the alpha particles and tritons for 197Au(^7Li, alphat)197 Au. A preliminary study was done on 121-MeV 16O + ^{12 }C to look for elastic ^{16 }O to alpha + 12C direct breakup at a primary angle of 10^circ. No statistically significant yield of direct breakup of 16O was observed.
