The use of optical telescopes for infrared and radioastronomy, where observations can also be made in daytime, requires reproducible positioning. Exceptionally good tracking is demanded. The measurement of magnitudes in the arcsec region can be done with commercially available incremental encoders. For these encoders electronic circuits have been developed to guarantee the required resolution.
