A mean effective temperature of 10,090 + or - 855 K is determined from classical spectrophotometry for a sample of nine Cr stars. Spectrum synthesis techniques are used to demonstrate that three of the four Cr II lines ordinarily employed as classification criteria for the group of Cr stars are affected by heavy blending. The affected lines are those at 4171.92, 4179.43, and 4233.25 A. It is concluded that line blending explains the disagreement between the observed relative intensities of the Cr II lines considered and published gf values.
