Isophotes of the edge-on spiral galaxy NGC 4565 at 0.6 and 1 microns are presented. Regions where the bulge is expected to merge with the postulated halo component are examined, and it is found that the surface brightness distribution of the bulge component in this galaxy is exponential. The 1-micron surface brightness of this galaxy is comparable to that of the Milky Way when suitable allowance is made for differences in the physical size of the two galaxies. The existence of extensive halos is discussed.
