Spectrophotometric data are presented for regions in the irregular galaxies NGC 3738, NGC 4214, and NGC 4449. In the H II regions, the ratios of the forbidden emissions at 3727 A (O II) and 5007 A (O III) are less than 2, while the inter-H II-region spectra have ratios greater than 2. Of the latter, six have oxygen ratios greater than about 4. The mechanism responsible for such high line ratios is explored, and it is found that these regions are unlike models of both shock-heated gas and normal H II regions.
