In the present analysis of a set of ten synthetic light curves for detached binaries with undistorted components which is subjected to random observation errors, emphasis is given to the precision of the systems' parameters, which generally increases for the case of star sizes with increasing stellar area fraction covered at mideclipse. The systematic effects of adopting incorrect limb-darkening coefficients and of neglecting third light which may be present in a system are investigated. The examination of published results for real binaries shows that differences between the values of the parameters obtained from different light curves of the system are, on a statistical basis, greater than expected from the internal mean errors of the parameters. This effect is greater for light curves obtained by different observers than for those made in two wavelength bands by the same observer.
