Continuum emission in the immediate vicinity of 4C 21.53 was observed at four frequencies with the 100-m telescope of the Max-Planck-Institut fuer Radioastronomie, Bonn. Most of the pointlike sources in the area seem to be background extragalactic sources. Two extended sources, G 57.6+0.3 and G 57.2+0.8, are probably an H II region and a supernova remnant not related to either the H II region 4C 21.53 W or the 'millisecond pulsar' PSR 1937+214 (Backer et al., 1982). Around the 4C 21.53 complex, extended low-level emission of nonthermal nature has been detected. The possibility that this 'plateau' of emission is associated with the millisecond pulsar is discussed, in view of Arons' (1983) model.
