The identification of Pr III lines in the red spectrum of magnetic Ap stars, whose great strength contrasts with the weakness of the second spectrum of Pr in upper main-sequence, chemically peculiar stars, is presently reported. This identification is judged to be a critical step toward a knowledge of the abundance systematics of the lanthanides in chemically peculiar stars, as well as toward characterization of the chemical fractionation processes which they undergo.
