A straightforward explanation is suggested for the O-C diagram variations noted in Beta Cep, in view of the characterizability of apparent period changes in terms of the orbital motion of the variable, in a binary system whose secondary is the less massive companion resolved by speckle interferometry. While spectroscopic orbital elements are derived from the O-C diagram, the visual ones are obtained from speckle interferometric data. The orbital elements are found to be consistent with both observed period changes and the nonpulsational component of the radial velocity variation.
