The whole broad H-alpha and H-beta profiles and intensities are fit by the emission of an accretion disk in six Seyfert galaxies. The main assumption is that the disk extends up to more than 1000 gravitational radii and is illuminated, either directly or through a diffusing medium, by a small fraction of the bolometric luminosity. Combining this method with a fit of the UV continuum by the accretion disk emission (with the hypothesis of a Schwarzschild black hole), masses, accretion rates, and disk inclinations are obtained with a relatively small uncertainty. This study leads to the new and unexpected result that, although the lines and UV continuum are provided by the disk, the rate of accretion through the disk represents only a small amount of the total accretion rate.
