In October 1980, during its low-luminosity state, spectrograms of the
novalike star TT Ari were obtained with the 6 m telescope. Between
phases 0.5 and 0.6 of the 3h 12m orbital period the radial velocities
jump abruptly, perhaps because the line of sight crosses a conical shock
generated by accretion in this binary system.
