In this short review the mechanisms that are capable to produce orbital period changes in close binaries are referred, and the relations connecting them with the binaries elements are presented. Moreover, since the study of the period changes is based on the (O-C) diagrams of eclipsing binaries, their analyses methods are referred, too. Finally, a general discussion is given.
