A statistical test is devised for the Blanford and Icke (1978) proposal that the mirror-symmetric curved structure in some low power extragalactic radio sources can be attributed to the gravitational acceleration of the radio galaxy by a nearby companion galaxy. In the present statistical test, the distribution of companion galaxies around a well-defined sample of low power radio sources with extended structure is examined, avoiding confusion with mirror symmetry caused by the motion of the sources through the galactic medium by restricting the sample to sources that are not in dense clusters of galaxies. While all four sources exhibiting mirror-symmetric wiggles have close companions, only three of the ten sources showing inversion-symmetric (or other) structure have close companions.
