The detection of very narrow SiO emission and the over-excitation of the ion fluid with respect to the neutral one, are possibly signatures of the magnetic precursor of C-shocks in young outflows. Since these features have only been observed towards the L1448-mm outflow, we recently carried out a survey to search for narrow SiO and ion over-excitation towards four other young outflows (L1448-IRS3, NGC1333, VLA1623 and IRAS20353). All of the outflows apart from IRAS20353 show differences between the ion and neutral fluids, and two of the outflows (L1448-IRS3 and NGC1333) also show narrow SiO emission, indicating that the magnetic precursor may be a common phenomenon. We aim to determine the physical conditions and extent of the magnetic precursor towards each outflow, which will be a useful constraint to shock models and understanding the physics of molecular outflows.
