The global properties of Type I X-ray bursts can be successfully accounted for by the thermonuclear shell flash model of accreting neutron stars. According to this model, the luminosity of a relatively large burst approaches the Eddington luminosity. Near the peak of a large X-ray burst density in the neutron star atmosphere is so low that electron scattering opacity dominates over absorptive opacity. In such a situation, the X-ray spectrum emitted by the neutron star surface is performed from Planck spectrum by Compton scattering. The atmospheric structure and the photon energy spectrum of the X-ray bursting neutron star is calculated taking into account such Comptonization. From the X-ray spectrum, theoretical color temperature luminosity diagram (analog of the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram) is obtained. Comparing the theoretical diagram with observations the mass radius relationships of neutron stars and their distances to the galactic center can be estimated.
