The results of comet observations for the year 1978 are reviewed. It is shown that, with at least 41 comets under observation at some time during the year, 1978 broke by as many as 10 the record number of observations of 1975 and 1977. The numerical order designations of the comets are given, and some recently computed orbital elements are tabulated. Among the comets identified are: P/Encke, P/Sanguin; and P/Gehrels 3.
