The ionosphere and auroras; the passive plasma experiment AMPTE; the magnetosphere and solar wind; and energetic ions and electrons in the magnetosphere and interplanetary space were studied. Infrared astronomy investigations comprise astronomical observations, development of observation systems, and theoretical work. In the field of X-ray astronomy astronomical observations, development of observation systems, laboratory investigations, and theoretical work were performed. The gamma astronomy investigations comprise flare and burst events, low energy gamma astronomy, high energy gamma astronomy, and theoretical work. Molecular spectroscopy investigations were performed.
